In play therapy, toys are used like words by children, and play is their language.
- Landreth, 2012.
Play is therefore a child's natural medium of communication. Children have difficulty expressing themselves verbally
and toys and materials can be be given to them to reveal their inner feelings. Play therapy will help children to
extend themselves into areas that they find difficult to enter into verbally. It is their
symbolic language of self-expression through which I can assess:
What the child has experienced
What the effect or reactions are of experiences
What feelings does the child experience about what he / she experienced
